Bangalore /UK: A man named Eric Gordon Douglas has left almost a quarter of a million pounds in his will to towns across the world which shares his surname. Already a place called Douglas Borough council has received a cheque for £10,887.73 from Eric Douglas’s solicitor. The council was surprised to receive the amount and when they wanted to know more information of the donor, solicitor gave them only the name. The solicitor made it very clear that every town or village or city which has name as Douglas will receive the amount from them.

Now when this news reached the ears of Karnataka chief minister B.S.Yeddyurappa, he decided to name one of the villages in Bellary district as ‘Douglas’. As the state government is already in the business of constructing new villages after the latest flood and hence he feels the government can name one of the villages as ‘Douglas’ and get the money from solicitors of Eric Gordon Douglas. His critics say this move is political as almost all the new villages which are built in Bellary district have influence of Reddy brothers and Reddy’s are even contributing from their pocket for rehabilitation of the flood affected villages. And hence in order to sideline the Reddy brothers Yeddyurappa is using foreign donation from unknown person who is doing it for name sake. It seems Yeddyurappa is determined to get the charity from Douglas as he does not mind giving Kannada village English name as long as Reddy name is not counted in the village.

The councilor of Douglas Borough Council are really worried how to use this money as he has not mentioned the usage of the money in his will but our state government has not bothered to worry about it at all. Our people are ready to change even the existing name of the village or town if million pounds of money is given to them. Who cares for the source of the money as long as it is resourceful? So now Douglas is going to be a village in Bellary district, Karnataka, India.
