Downtown Dubai: Burj Dubai is now named as Burj Khalifa. It is tallest man made structure ever built on the earth. And the its height is 828 meters i.e. 2717 ft. construction began in September 2004 and it was ready by October 2009. Just five years to reach this height. Don’t get amazed. I know it is not only surprising for us (Indians) but also shocking. We have so many road projects started five years before which are still in the beginning stage and they take at least another 5 years to complete. Don’t get disappointed, it is not easy to construct even one kilometer road on the surface of the earth (Golden quadrangle highway project is still underway in our country and it will go on). Lot of politics is there on the earth. That could be the reason Dubai went for the vertical construction and touched the sky limit. Certainly it is height of construction. They should be credited for this.

The cost involved in constructing this Burj is hardly around 7000 crores. If India minds- it can have such projects once in every three years. We come across scams (like satyam and illegal mining) worth 5000 crores once in every three years. It is not big deal for us at all. But still it is height of investment during the recession. The selling cost per sq.ft in the Burj is hardly 1.8 lacs, which is cheaper than the cost at Nariman point, Mumbai. Read the rest of this entry »

Mumbai: As many as 18 students of Seth GS Medical College have been arrested and later released on bail, on charges of ragging. Reports say that the nature of the ragging incident in a medical college was similar to a scene in Aamir Khan-starred 3 Idiots.

On Monday the city was stunned by three cases of student suicides, including of two minors, in the past 24 hours.
In the first instance, a 20-year old medical student was found dead in her flat in the up-market Powai area of north-west Mumbai in the morning. No suicide note was recovered from the site, police said. A first year medical student of D.Y. Patil College in Navi Mumbai had reportedly failed in two subjects in her term examinations. A 13-year-old student of the prestigious Shardashram Boys High School in Dadar west also committed suicide. The boy was a student of Class 7 and reportedly took the extreme step as he had failed in some subjects. His body was discovered by some teachers in the toilet after he was found missing during the daily roll-call. This was followed by the suicide of an 11-year old girl after her parents refused her permission to participate in a television reality show and took her off dance tuitions. She had earlier taken part in a reality TV dance show, wanted to pursue her dancing career. However, her family was opposed to her hobby as it played havoc with her school studies. Reports say that these suicides were also inspired by “3 idiot” movie as the youngster had apparently watched 3 Idiots twice on Sunday – the film portrays an engineering student who failed in his exams hanging himself to death from his hostel room. Bidar: A church was attacked in Humnabad, Bidar district in the month of November 2009.The Assailants had damaged Furniture, electrical fittings in the main prayer hall and the cross on the dome of the church.
Christians, Secular Brigade, Congress and Global Missionaries immediately concluded that – Hindu Fascists are behind the attack! As it happened in a BJP ruled state in 2008 September and as usual it invited the attention of Mainstream media. The Opposition parties such as the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) had also joined the Christians and its media in demanding action against those responsible for the attack. All hell broke down once again and Karnataka made headlines in the national and international media. Every   English speaking media most of which are owned by Global Christians started doing the special stories on “attacks on Christians in Karnataka” specifically mentioning that under BJP government which is in the power.  Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton were about to express their concern towards the safety of Christians in Karnataka (George Bush had expressed his concern to   Manmohan Singh in 2008   for such attacks) and Indian external affairs minister S.M.Krishna was   drafting the assurance speech to the western world that Christians will be safe guarded in India and his deputy Tharoor was planning to tweet this issue in twitter.

Exactly after one month Bidar district police claimed to have solved this case of an attack on a church in Humnabad town in Bidar district with the arrest of a former pastor of the church and three hired goons who allegedly attacked the church. Read the rest of this entry »
