Hubli /Cape Town: Indian Lesbians celebrated when the Delhi High Court declared that gay sex in no more illegal and they should be protected under the law. The court had said that a statute in Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which defines homosexual, acts as “carnal intercourse against the order of nature” and made them illegal, was an “antithesis of the right to equality”. “We are elated. We think what now happens is that a lot of our fundamental rights and civic rights which were denied to us can now be reclaimed by us,” said activists after hearing the judgment. But here’s something for Indian lesbians to ponder over. The similar law was also passed in South Africa during 2005 and there were also many celebrations and agitations. Now recently African conservatives have started protesting the gay sex and they have decided to “correct” the lesbians by raping them. Lesbians are being dragged off the street and raped to “correct” them. It has become new trend called as “corrective rape” in the townships on the outskirts of Cape Town. One of the lesbian who lives in this area said she had been attacked on two occasions – on the first occasion they failed to rape her and on second she was raped. This has become a common phenomenon in the region for lesbians. The attackers said lesbians should be “whipped”. “There is no mention of lesbians in the bible,” they said. They said they approved of lesbians being raped to “correct” them and to “teach them a lesson”. They said “women should behave like women” and this was a way of “teaching” them that. New Delhi: MPs have come up with a unique idea in the fight against tobacco. They want that the person buying a cigarette packet should get a free cancer check-up coupon, each time you buy. The proposal is the idea of Parliament Committee on Health and Family Welfare member Maneka Gandhi, who is recommending that tobacco companies start giving vouchers for free cancer check ups inside every cigarette pack. She has also asked the tobacco companies to set up cancer hospitals near ‘pan’ shop. Indeed it is very noble idea. She believed a coupon inside the cigarette packet will drive the message home. Thank you madam people of India who smoke got your coupon message. Now why government should think of only smokers? What about alcoholic addicts? Why don’t government allow free gastroscopy test in the government hospitals for drunkards? Let all the alcoholic bottles be labeled with gastroscopy machine and those who want to know the number of ulcers in their stomach due to drinking can get it checked at free of cost. This also sends message across the society, I mean drinking society. Government can even think of having free HIV test for hookers and their bookers in order to reduce the AIDS. All the three measure will be effective for the health of the individuals. Read the rest of this entry »
