‘Austerity drive’ dives into Air India ‘Thali’
20th October, 2009
NEW DELHI: Austerity drive which has started with flying in economy class (referred as cattle class by twitter tharoor) rather than business class by ministers and other high commands has now reached Delhi Air India canteen. Air India canteen at Delhi has decided to offer only vegetarian food for its 700-1100 daily employees in future thus reducing the cost by Rupees 3 lakhs per month. Veg thali is being charged 2.50 Rs where as non-veg thali was costing 3.50 Rs. Some people criticized this move saying that it is “too little, too late”. But if this is too little contribution towards cost reduction then what people should say about the Indian union minister with independent portfolio shri Kamal Nath Sharma’s decision to quit “paapad” to show the solidarity for the government’s austerity drive? Even some senior Air India members say that they have sacrificed non- veg thali in order to get PLI (performance linked incentive). Now the question is what if they fail to perform with only veg- thali? In that case they are losing chicken and incentive both.
Mean while Beauty without cruelty – (BWC) a world wide organization of vegetarians for vegetarian, which condemns the killing of animals for the usage of human needs and recommends the people for vegetarian food has sent a letter of appreciation to Air India management for their decision of providing only vegetarian in the canteen. Even this organization has requested Air India to adopt this policy for their passengers also.
